Surf Internet in Australia on the go...
First choose the provider. Vodafone and Three are 2 considerably cheaper operators. But Telstra (Big Pond) has thebest frequency. So it depends on where you are staying too.
Then check out the plans offered. Do you want pre-paid or post-paid. As a vodafone user, there is another plan which I find worth to take a look - the month-by-month plan.
If you are not in need of internet (there are free wireless in Melbourne too e.g. the State Library and certain cafes), you may also check out the post office and Safeway/Coles.
Sometimes they have some special offers e.g. I remembered just last month, Safeway was slashing half price off the modem if you recharge a certain amount.
So after the purchase, you will have a sim card. Pluck it out and assembled it into the modem. Being plug and play, the moment you plugged into the computer or laptop, it will trigger an installer to install the software so that you can connect to internet. And then restart your computer and you are set to surf internet in Australia.
And if you happen to own a micro-sd card, the modem can also be multi-tasked to be a thumb drive too once you insert your micro-sd card into the appropriate slot.
And when it is time for a recharge, if you possess a credit card (vodafone only accept australian credit cards though), you may recharge online. Else purchase a recharge voucher like me and just key in the PIN :)
