Scrimp and Save may backfire

Check inside carefully before you buy. (Hmm the picture is just a reference. Coles has not given me any problem yet.)

I always like to get baby spinach in packet form because I don't seem to be able to find the fresh baby spinach. And it is easier to just open the packet and wash and consume immediately. And I know sometimes Aldi is cheaper than Coles and Woolsworth though a friend did warn me that certain stuff seems a bit dodgy.

So it was a very scary experience when I bought my packet of spinach in Aldi yesterday (New Year's Day). I was delighted to see a packet costs less than 2 AUD and the leaves look pretty good too. Brought it to the counter which was a long Q as only one counter was servicing. When it was about to be my turn, I suddenly noticed something moving in the packet (I think the guy behind me had also noticed the insect the same time as I did).

My first reaction was to remove it from the aisle. Then I decided putting it at the other side is abit unethical as it does belong to the refrigerated section. So I explained to the cashier that I am rejecting this packet due to an insect in the packet. I had to repeat 3 times before she finally replied, "Oh Gosh!". I wondered had I turned unintelligible due to the shock I received.

And I made a mental note never to scrimp and save to such extent to visit Aldi again. Also, to check the insides when I'm purchasing from Coles and Safeway. But today, as I was checking Coles, I find theirs not as fresh as I hope it will be. Sigh I should have gone Victoria Market to buy my veggies, they really are cheaper.
