Melbourne home grown fruits..
Melbourne has plentiful of home grown fruits. Bananas seem to be their favourite though which I came to learn of after the Queensland flood caused the banana plantation to be submerged and lead to the low supply and high pricing of the bananas. (Knew it because of the weekly Fruitbox that my client's HR welfare had implemented for their employees).
Anyway, since I am in Melbourne, I had to try these fruits ...
My first fruit fascination was the blood oranges because of the name...
Bought the normal oranges and mandarin oranges..
As well as grapefruit
and persimmon
Kiwifruits were next ...
especially the gold kiwifruits which I first knew of them when I visited New Zealand a decade ago...
And grapes which were plentiful and supposedly cheap because of the large number of vineyards they have here...
Tamarillo looks queer and I just had to try it...
Looks like passionfruit, supposedly to taste like one too but I don't feel so.. More more details, click here
And thus I had to buy passionfruit to relieve back the taste of it..
I seen a lot of shriveled ones though but never did dare to buy...
Another fruit I was fascinated was the figs...
Had craving for watermelon which I used to have back home .. so just had to buy it even though I did not have the correct knife to cut them.. it was deliciously sweet..
Papaya was another tropical fruit I missed...
Also had to try all the berries from...
strawberries..
mulberries..
Bought lots of mangoes initially too and learn how to cut them into cubes like this for easier consumption.
Also bought aprictos...
nectarines...
peaches...
When cherries came into season in Novemeber, it became my favourite fruit of the month
That i even bought a box back home in December for my family
Sadly when I came back, cherries were dwindling already... I realised seasonal fruits really apply in Melbourne unlike back home where most of my fruits were imported and there was never a lack of anything from cherries to strawberries..
A Granny smith apple a day keeps the doctor away..
February season of the fruits were the William Pears...
Fruits that I will not attempt to try include
Coconut...
