In Italy, you can deduce roughly how expensive the eating place is by the name.
Osteria: an informal place where the service is casual. The prices are usually low. However, if you notice the menu is up-priced, you are not in a real Osteria.
Trattoria: which is a medium-priced, often family-run eating establishment. There are generally no printed menus.
Ristorante: generally more high-class and thus prices are definitely more than one can expect.
And in Florence, under recommendations, I was told that we must try their Bistecca alla Fiorentina and one of the best places to try it is none other than at Ristorante Accademia. When we reach the place, it has not open for dinner which gave me time to ‘scrutinize’ the Ristorante and saw this letter.
If a child could say how good this place is, I guess at the least, it is not too bad haha. And thus at dinner time, we had managed to work out a big appetite to order
tantalizing chicken and yummy baked potatoes
tomato-based spaghetti
And the most important dish – the Bistecca alla Fiorentina. This massive steak brushed with olive oil and grilled over charcoal is usually a T-Bone or porterhouse cut, and it’s huge enough to feed at least 2-3 people. Thus it is highly recommended that you find at least one more person interested in it too. And while most of the time you can choose the style to cook steak, for a bistecca, you just order a bistecca. The steak you’ll be served will be rare, but that’s the way it’s meant to be because cooking it more than that will actually reduce its flavor. So although you can order it well-done, my advise is – please don’t.
So how do you go to this place? As the name suggest, it is actually pretty near the Galleria dell’Accademia. So make your way to first visit David in the Accademia and then head to the Piazza San Marco open space where you will see the San Marco Convent..
and you will see Ristorante Accademia at the opposite end.
Detailed walking directions from the train station:
Walk on Via Navionale to Piazza Independenza
Turn right on Via Ventisette Aprile
From the Duomo and Baptistery, walk on Via Martelli
Continue straight on Via Cavour
FYI, Piazza San Marco is a major bus hub so it's pretty easy to get there by bus from anywhere in Florence. If you are coming from Fiesole, number 7 bus stops in Piazza San Marco, too.
