Travel in Venice

Of course it is possible to tour Venice solely by foot but the tendency to get lost into these lookalike streets or to realise you are on the wrong side of the canal.

Thus one of the most common way is to get around in Vaporetti.

First figure out which line and which direction you want to take the Vaporetti.

Then validate your Venice Card (Check out how to buy your Venice Card here) via this ticket machine.

Wait in the boarding area.

And then board the Vaporetti. Remember to avoid the reserved seats. I noticed that no matter how full the Vaporetti, these seats will always be vacant for those specified.

Another way is via private taxi.

Of course if you booked in a posh hotel, there might be private transport to it.

The most expensive way is via a Gondola. The most pleasant rides will be from stations beyond the San Marco area (San Tomà, for example), as there will be fewer gondole jamming the narrow canals.Check out the gondola fares guide from livingveniceblog.

But if you want an inexpensive way, try the Traghetto. Traghetto (plural: traghetti) means "ferry" in Italian and are passenger boats that cross the canal at seven points between the railroad station and St. Mark's Basin. The boats are old gondolas that have been stripped of their brocaded chairs and other luxury trimmings. They are rowed by two oarsmen: one who stands behind the passengers like a traditional gondolier, the other closer to the bow. It is unfortunate that I forgot to try it while I was there. Completely slipped my mind.

Whichever way you chose, have fun traveling in the water....
